We are an informal and friendly group who meet a couple of times a month usually in each others' houses.
We welcome new members!

The Leeds Vegetarian and Vegan Society is an active social group, meeting on the second Thursday evening of every month for a variety of social activities, and occasionally one Sunday afternoon per month for a shared pot-luck lunch, where we dazzle each other with our culinary skills! To join our group you simply ask to be put on our mailing list and we will send or email you a copy of our annual programme.

Previous social evenings have included a talk by Friends of the Earth, a talk on essential oils, quizzes, a craft evening, Indian head massage, a celebration of Fair Trade fortnight with local, independent companies selling their goods. These evenings are an opportunity to meet other veggies and vegans across West Yorkshire (several members live outside Leeds) and experiment with various ideas for having fun and raising consciousness about issues which interest us.

The Sunday lunches are to inspire each other to get creative in the kitchen and for the pleasure of sharing fantastic food. We take it in turns to host them, picking a different theme each time and each bringing a few dishes. We usually eat out to mark National Vegetarian Week in May, World Vegan Day in November and Christmas. Our family-friendly annual picnics are always popular. If we hear about a new veggie café in the area, there’s soon someone volunteering to organise a walk in the countryside near it followed by a visit to the café.

Our recipe book, “A Taste of Leeds”, is available from some of the main wholefood stores in Leeds (see our website), our stalls at various events, or our meetings. Our stalls at mainstream and green events across the region sell home-made cakes, the newsletter, old veggie recipe books and our own new recipe book based on favourite dishes from the Sunday lunches. We have a range of free material on healthy eating and nutrition from the Vegetarian and Vegan Societies.

"Our stalls at mainstream and green events across the region sell home-made cakes, the newsletter, old veggie recipe books and our own new recipe book based on favourite dishes from the Sunday lunches. Please replace with "Our stalls at mainstream and green events across the region provide a range of material on healthy eating, nutrition, animal welfare and the environment from the Vegetarian Society, the Vegan Society, Animal Aid, Viva and the Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation(donations always welcome). We also sometimes sell home-made cakes/truffles/flapjacks. About twice a month, there is a LeedsVeg healthy eating stall at the Leeds Primary Care Trust "All Being Well" stall in the indoor Kirkgate market in the city centre. See the website for dates."
